Submission on the pest management proposed plan of action [PDF]
Response to the request for submissions from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The submission reiterates the need for local solutions related to local autonomy and decision making. Points are also made about the cost effectiveness of a solution cannot always be the main driver as local community relationships and preferences need to be considered. The submission discusses the assignment of responsibilities between local and central government. Councils support a Maori Advisory committee as part of MAF's approach. LGNZ advocates the differentiation between game and pest species and advocates against being prescriptive in defining regional cooperation citing many areas where councils are involved in diverse but successful collaborativelocal efforts

Memorandum to Councils on the LGA 2002 Amendment Bill [PDF]
Local Government New Zealand is working with the Society of Local Government Managers (SOLGM) on it's approach to a submissions to this Bill. Submissions close on Friday 18 June. The memorandum has been produced as advice to Councils in considering their own submissions on the Bill. Much of the Bill is technical in nature and the years since the LGA Act was passed provide an opportunity to review it's operation. There are elements which LGNZ endoreses such as the simplification of reporting requirements. However other parts of the Bill provide potential hazards of interpretation about scope if they remain as they are at present.
